Almost
every spring, my buddy Steve Berkowitz finds one or several red
fox dens. Steve's a Veterinarian in the horse country of south-eastern
Pennsylvania, and on some of these big farms foxes den. Unfortunately,
Mary and I are in southern Arizona during the prime fox-photography
times, so we miss the chances of shooting the foxes. Last year,
we returned home early enough for me to get one opportunity with
the foxes with Steve, which was a wonderful experience.
When I returned home from Arizona, my in-box of email had several
notes from Steve, with updates of the shots he'd been making.
Although Steve has had great luck virtually every year, this year's
shots were special. The fox kits grew so accustomed to Steve that
he was able to shoot at ground-level without a blind, getting
wonderful low-angle images in beautiful late afternoon light.
The opportunity was so great that in the five free days we had
between hummingbird shoots, I was tempted to fly home and shoot
with Steve! I didn't, though I wish I could have, for the images
Steve posted were just incredible. Congrats!
